I woke up feeling completely defeated in my desires to lose weight and live a happier, healthier life. I decided to go see my doctor to talk to him about it. He encouraged me to keep trying. We discussed some different weight loss options available in our area. I told him I needed a very structured program with lots of counseling. I asked about SLIM 4 LIFE and he said it's a good program and his patients have had good success with it. He wrote me a prescription for it so my insurance will pay for some of it and I can claim it on my FSA. Hopefully it won't cost us much out of pocket. I left his office and went to straight to the Slim 4 Life center. I'd heard adds about it on the radio and seen ads online. A friend of mine had also tried it years ago. She was successful on it, but said it was too expensive, so she stopped going. She's gained back some of the weight, but not much. I wasn't sure what to expect. I met with the manager of the center for my initial consultation. I filled out some forms and she took my health history. Some of that was just chatting, but I think she was trying to get to know me a little bit. After that she gave me a very basic introduction to the program. I'll be attending a more in depth class tomorrow. Here's what I learned about the program so far. They work with you to learn to eat in a healthy way and overcome past unhealthy behaviors. I can go in a meet with one of the counselors every day if I want to. In fact, they encourage you to come in often. I'm going in later today because I have a few questions. In addition to that, they give you several natural nutritional supplements that you have to take. My friend told me about that, but i didn't realize how many I'd have to take. The counselor told me that they help make the weight loss quick and healthy. It helps your body adjust to the rapid changes. I'm not thrilled about having to take all those supplements every day, but I'm willing to do whatever I have to to lose the weight. The philosophy seems to be that they want you to lose the weight quickly then transition into a healthy lifetime maintenance. I started this morning on my 3 day . It's similar to the Atkins induction phase, but I only have to do it for 3 days. I can only eat cooked fresh meats (she recommended that I eat mostly beef) and green veggies except for peas (no problem there!) I'm also supposed to eat one orange and two eggs per day. I can also use as much as I want of the salad dressing they gave me. I'm also supposed to drink at least 8. That will continue for life. For now, the only supplement I'm taking is their version of essential fatty acid capsules. I'll start the rest of the supplements after this first phase. They don't mention exercise or fitness at all. You're pretty much on your own for that. They don't discourage it, but they don't give you any advice on it either. That's OK for me because I like to exercise and I have a fitness plan in place. I talked to her about that and she says great! She said that as their clients lose weight they have more energy and become much more active. I CAN'T WAIT for that to happen since I never have much energy anymore. I have a lot of weight to lose, so my program is probably more expensive than it is for most. I paid $7. 44. 0. They also gave me some samples of other food they have like protein bars. I think all of the initial payment will be covered by insurance. She told me that if I follow that program exactly as they tell me as I go along, I'm guaranteed to lose at least 3 pounds per week. At that rate it should take me just over 8 months to lose the weight. She said I may lose it even faster than that. I figured what the supplements will cost of that time and broke it down by month. It will probably cost about $1. That seems like a lot, but it's not that much when I figure I. It is more expensive than any other plan I've tried except for Nutrisystem, but I think the counseling and personalized make it worth every penny. If I can lose the weight and keep it off and be healthier in the future, it will save me thousands down the road. I'll probably post every day at first and then maybe weekly after a while. I'm pretty optimistic about this. Besides, I paid the money up front and I can't get it back, so there's no turning back now.
